ED & that OLD GREEN MAN

The owl says who, the wolf howl's and the day begins for Ed.  Leonard decides to introduce ED to the realities of the Shaman existence.

The mischievous undermining green man, the bane of Ed chigliak the wonderfully insightful and yet simple Character who is the Link between Joel and the tightly knit town of Cicely Alaska.  He was Left under a tree where he was found and raised by his clan, but the curiosity to know is always in his mind.  Who are ED's Parents? One Who Waits, wants to know as bad as we do. But for ED there is a Demon which he must surmount before he can truly be happy with himself.

The Green Man is the manifestation of Low Self Esteem.  Which is correctly labeled by Leonard as being at the core of all evil. For ED he is the DEMON he must beat to become a shaman, A man.

The Nature of Low self esteem is what makes his DEMON so hard to beat. Low self esteem is a condition which begins and ends in that internal voice which we all have.  That voice which tells us not to get too close to the edge of a cliff. the one that says I can't do this, when a task is difficult, the voice which talks back to you when you look in the mirror.

This is the source of all self doubt and self hatred. Everyone has self doubt at one time or another, but when it is a pervasive condition you have the neurosis known as low self esteem.

The source of this critical inner voice is the most difficult piece of the puzzle.  It comes from a continual barrage of harsh judgments by Parents and teachers.  It comes from every situation where you have been put down, or abused. The repetitive pattern of critique or praise moulds this voice to the the state it is today.

Much of this impact happens due to repetition throughout generations.  The pattern of telling someone to " think about it" in an aggressive way will over time mould that internal voice to doubt their own logic before they even speak.

The piece of the puzzle which is missing is that which is not taught, the technique of quieting that inner voice.  Removing it from your consciousness and working with the quiet undistracted, disciplined mind.

A Process of meditation and focus, but achievable.

But first you must believe that the inner voice is wrong.  That the familiar is working against you.

It is not a part of you, it is created by external factors.  It just sounds allot like your voice so you trust it.

Should You????

Ed discovers that the only way to win is to not trust the green man.  To push through the self doubt and the confusion and move forward.

He gets out of his truck with resolve, he is confronted with the familiar borage of self doubt and criticism,  he falters and then collects himself, he realizes that the Old Green Man has nothing but words to work with and that he decides what damage is done by the words, no one else, and he pushes ahead, by his obstacle and goes forward to the door.

One look back convinces him that he was right, The Green Man's only weapon is words, and then he confronts life without the voice, one with Calm Clarity and Says to Bonnie, " I need to explain something to you, can I come in?"
